Nāthan Theo Naicker has been practicing astrology professionally since 2014. Since 2010, he has studied traditional western astrology (Hellenistic, Persian, and Medieval traditions) where he qualified in natal, horary, mundane, electional and astrolocality branches. He received his Diploma in Medieval Astrology from Robert Zoller in 2012, and a Diploma in Astrological Studies from Rod Suskin in 2014. He has studied under leaders in the field of traditional western astrology, including John Frawley, Bernadette Brady, Chris Brennan, Demetra George, Benjamin Dykes, and others. He completed his Practitioners Level in Horary Astrology from the School of Traditional Astrology by Deborah Houlding in 2016. Meeting Pandit Sanjay Rath in 2016 and studying Jyotish in the Śrī Acyutānanda paraṁpara under his guidance is a blessing that has reconnected and cultivated in Nāthan the Vedic heritage of Sanātana Dharma. He is completing the Parāśara Jyotish Course and Jaimini Scholar Program, as well as the Mantra Śāstra Program.
Nāthan Theo helped his grandfather in the family temple from an early age and became attached to the vibrations of prayer and community around him. The local Rāmakrishna Mission branch was next to his grandfather’s house, and he relished attending the satsaṅga regularly held there. During his early primary school years, he attended and was involved in the Satya Sai movement in South Africa. In highschool, he became very involved in the Divine Life Society of South Africa and dived into spiritual practices as per the teachings of Swami Sivananda.
Nāthan’s main studies in the occult focus has focused on the Theurgy of Neoplatonism as taught by Iamblichus in The Egyptian Theurgies and later the fragmented Picatrix; Esoteric Christianity and Gnosticism as instructed in the Apophthegmata Patrum of the Desert Fathers, Thomas von Kempin’s The Imitation of Christ, the Vita Sanctae of Hildegard von Bingen (who also inspired him to explore medieval medical astrology); Christian Kabbalah expounded by Marcilio Ficino and especially his student Pico della Mirandola, and the Christian mysticism expounded by Paramahaṅsa Yogananda, and others. Nāthan practices tarot and other forms of divination such as hydromancy as a complement to his astrological practice. Nāthan is particularly interested in the intersection of Visionary Theology (inspired scripture) and Astrology, something which the study of Vedāñga Jyotish satisfies fully.
Nāthan Theo is a Fellow of the Association of Professional Astrologers International (APAI) in the UK, the South Africa representative for the Organization for Professional Astrology (OPA) in the US, and a member of other astrology organizations including the International Society for Astrological Research (ISAR), British Association of Vedic Astrology (BAVA), and Astrology Society South Africa. Nāthan Theo holds retreats in South Africa, and hosts webinars, workshops, and private courses in South Africa and online through various astrological organizations and schools around the world. He has also run workshops and talks in Poland (2014) and the UK (2015-2017). Nāthan currently assists as Copy Editor for the Jyotish Digest magazine and is also a contributor to it and other astrological journals in the US and the UK.
Nāthan Theo has a BSc Petroleum Engineering (Texas Tech University, USA) with minors in Mathematics & Statistics, and Mechanical Engineering. Prior to taking up Astrology full-time, Nāthan worked as a Petroleum Reservoir Engineer in the South Africa, West Africa, and UK offshore environments.
Nāthan Theo currently lives in Cape Town, South Africa, and enjoys regular walks and hikes in the nearby national parks and enjoys road-trips to places of natural and historical interest. He is interested in anthropology in the context of military history, as well as the interconnectedness of ancient knowledge systems and cultures. He is passionate about rekindling an interest in the esoteric sky mythologies from around the world for everyday people. The evolution of language and meaning from ancient to medieval literature across the world, and particularly the rich historical knowledge systems of the Vedic culture are an ongoing interest.
